Storm Darragh is on its way, with the UK anticipating strong winds and heavy rain later this evening and into the weekend.
Weather Warnings
The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning for wind, covering the coastal areas of Wales and south-west England. An amber warning for rain is also in place for parts of Wales, while yellow warnings for wind and rain cover much of the UK.
According to Met Office Chief Forecaster, Jason Kelly, “The worst impacts from Storm Darragh will be felt as we go through the early hours of tomorrow morning and throughout Saturday with, in addition to the broad yellow warning, red and amber wind warnings in place from 1 am tomorrow. In the red warning area, we could see wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour along the coasts of west and south Wales as well as funnelling through the Bristol Channel, with some very large waves on exposed beaches.”
The Impact of Storms on Fencing
The strong winds and heavy rain from storms like Darragh can often cause significant damage to our gardens, particularly to fence panels and posts.
While wind speed is certainly a factor, wind direction can also play a significant role by exploiting weaknesses and rain can weaken wood over time. With that in mind, it’s not surprising that thousands of fence panels and posts across the UK fall victim to winter storms each year.
